Total area -  62m²

Scope: Kitchen
Address - Coastal Sussex

Client - Private homeowners

Main contractor: Blue Door

The family had gained planning permission and listed building consent for the extension of the kitchen and utility room at this special Grade II listed 18th Century eight bedroom house.

The kitchen, informal dining area, utility room, larder and WC were laid out in this new space by the clients' architect. The relocated kitchen and dining space has a view through the house from the main entrance - lining up with the new French doors to the rear of the kitchen.

The clients wanted a relaxing and highly functional environment, which feel spacious, light and calming. It was important that it didn't have a conventional fitted kitchen appearance, and for it to be practical and hardwearing finishes, child friendly and child resistant.

Informal dining area is well utilised and needed to be warm and comfortable. There is a second formal dining area next to the kitchen.

Functionality was the clients’ prime concern.  The kitchen was designed to be ergonomically and ensure efficient use - flow through the kitchen to the dining table and washed up and stored away crockery and cutlery. Everything needed a home and stored appropriately.

To the side is a temperature controlled and insulated walk in larder, utility room and WC.

The end result is a mixture of Georgian elegance and modern functionality.

🍃 Designed to maximise natural light, the kitchen features glazing on the southerly and westerly walls, complemented by a large skylight overhead.

🍃 The flooring is laid with travertine tiles, providing warmth and a nature connection.
