About me...

Chloe Bullock

Born and raised in sunny Brighton.  I have studied design, worked in design and have had my own design company since 2005!

I have 28 years design experience and I offer all the standard interior design help as my fellow interior designers PLUS I also design beautiful interiors with a focus on sustainability, healthy & cruelty free specifications.

Prior to setting up my own interior design company,  I was an 3D designer for The Body Shop’s head office working on store and retail concepts globally.  This where my knowledge of LOW IMPACT INTERIOR DESIGN has come from.

sustainable and crulety free interior

I passionately want to ADD VALUE for my clients by ensuring the spaces I deliver are healthy for the users and low impact on people and nature as well.

I want to look at the design holistically.  Aesthetics are super important but I want to help more than that - working to lessen the impact of the specifications used in conjunction with my client's values.

Example image

Many more clients are now finding me because they like my ethos - but for many years I have worked with clients who needed convincing to work with lower impact specifications.  So I have lots of experience to share with you.

In hindsignht - many clients have appreciated that there are many stories to tell - especially for businesses.  So it's been wonderful watching the ripples extend.

Example image

My learnings on environmental awareness, sustainability using circular economy principles and cruelty-free specifications learnt at The Body Shop, have translated into my own interior design business.

I went on to be the first interior designer in the UK to be VEGANDESIGN ORG CERTIFIED™ and have contiued my study in human-centred and sustainable design.  Read more here.

Is it for me?!

Who is this consultation suitable for?

  • Homeowners who want to carry out their project themselves - but who just need some advice to keep them on the tracks

  • People who appreciate that quality means longevity - and who would like materials, finishes, products and furniture that last longer than a season.

  • People who appreciate preloved, better quality items

  • Clients with a reasonable budget.  The larger the budget - the more options I can help you  with.  Conscious specifications are not always more expensive.  Careful planning at the early stage of your project will save mistakes, waste and money - so hopefully this will mean you can spend more on the good bits!

Who is this consultation NOT suitable for?

  • People who really need a lot of help from the session.  I’m pretty quick & efficient and two hours can go a long way!   But I might not get through the whole of your priority list

  • People who don't to want implement the results of the consultation themselves.  Saying this - I really do appreciate people are busy and might need more help after a consultation.  I am very happy to help further and I offer discounted time packages for this follow up help.  Again - delivering this support online is possible.  But there may be things I can't help with easily long distance that will need your input

  • People who like trends and not quality!  I want to help you spend your money wisely and on things that will last you

  • If you are someone who likes to rip out everything and start again - I might not be the right fit for you as I'm probably  going to encourage you to repair and reuse things

What do clients say?

"Thanks for your time last week, you’ve given me some fantastic ideas!  I will certainly recommend you if I can or if I know anyone that might be interested in your services."

IN PERSON consultation client. Brighton & Hove

I needed urgent advice on the aesthetics of a home extension and reached out to Chloe from Materialise Interiors. Chloe arranged an online consultation and had prepared for the conversation by looking at plans I sent in advance.

She was patient and supportive and clearly understood my dilemma with how to best light a high sloping ceiling amongst other key design elements.  Chloe provided creative solutions that I had not considered and sent me pictures of examples.  My own personal project page was established and sent to me too.

I was so impressed by the care and attention given along with the creative design solutions suggested. In a short video call I had my challenges solved and felt relieved and positive. Chloe’s manner is so reassuring yet professional and her creativity and understanding of my individual needs were perfect!

Thanks for your time last week, you’ve given me some fantastic ideas!  I will certainly recommend you if I can or if I know anyone that might be interested in your services.”

ONLINE consultation client. Rustington

"Chloe’s advice was invaluable during our kitchen extension.

She helped us to realise the potential of the space available in a kind, sensitive and friendly manner.  She was also considerate of the age of the building and the style required.  She helped us with sourcing materials and cementing the design scheme.

Thank you Chloe."

IN PERSON consultation client. Brighton & Hove

I reached out to Materialise Interiors as the renovation of our house urgently needed a number of decisions made, mainly paint colours throughout.

Chloe's knowledge & experience and her calm & friendly demeanour was a god send! I loved talking ideas and getting a different perspective on things with Chloe's brilliant and informed input.

Definitely recommend using Materialise Interiors!

Questions you might have...

“What is different about your interior design services?”

The services themselves are the same as my industry colleagues - but when it comes to sourcing I will be showing you options that are lower impact to planet, animals and humans.   I will find out what issues concern you most and I will make suggestions to suit.

“What is different about the products you source?”

Many of the things I’ll show you are not all that different except I’m using recycled content, buying from certified sources or avoiding animal testing and animal products.  There are many exciting options to look at.

“What area do you offer in person consultations?”

Anywhere in Brighton and Hove.  I can travel further - but travel time would be chargeable.

“What qualifies you to offer interior design services?”

I’ve worked in design for over 27 years and have studied both furniture and interior design.  Being a BIID Registered Interior Designer® at the British Institute of Interior Design means I have a commitment to Continuing Professional Development (CPD).  I’ve taken exams in human centric design and cruelty free design.  I love learning and I love to research and have recently completed a course on healthy specifications for interiors which you will benefit from too.

“Will you provide solutions during the consultation?”

You can appreciate there are lots of variables here.  Interior design covers very many areas and specifications!  I will do my best.

If in person, I will bring my iPad with me so I can access my product library and the internet.

If online, I will have access to my product library and the internet -  but some things might have to follow on afterwards.  I won't be able to answer everything on the spot.  The better you prepare me for areas you need help - the more prepared I will be.

Depending on the amount you need to work through - sometimes I finish the consultation early to use the time to work on things you need sourcing.

Or I can do further sourcing for you as part of the FOLLOW UP time.

“Will you write up notes for me?”

I absolutely can as part of the follow up time if you'd find that useful.  The FOLLOW UP time can be used however you choose.

"Will unused time be refunded?"

No I can't refund for unused time.  It's important to me to help you as much as possible and my input will save you time and mistakes.

“Which is better - an online or an in-person consultation?”

In person if best for looking at problem spaces or anything that needs to be measured.

I have to say I find the online consultations  are more efficient as we get settled into the consultation quicker and my tools such as my product library are closer to hand.

"Can I reschedule the consultation?"

Yes, happy to reschedule - but being a small business I would very much value at least 48 hours notice.  Of course if you are affected by the virus I will be as helpful as I can to reschedule to another date.

If you have an in person booking and are concerned you have symptoms of the virus or need to shield - the consultation can be moved online for you.

If you wish to cancel a consultation within 48 hours of the booking, 50% will be refunded as a gesture of goodwill.

"When do I need to return the completed the questionnaire by?"

I'd love the questionnaire a week before the appointment .  At least 48 hours before.

“I struggle using computers - can I book and pay over the phone?”

Please call me on 07799 534685 to discuss.  I can take PayPal payments or cash if that is easier.

The appointment needs to be prepaid a week before the consultation.

"How long can I access the Follow Up on the Client Portal?"

You have access for life (or until I stop trading).
